Briefly describe the cutting motion form of CNC lathe

Metal cutting refers to the use of the relative motion of the cutter and the workpiece on the CNC lathe to cut off the excess metal material (i.e. surplus) on the workpiece blank, so as to obtain the parts required by the drawing. Compared with other methods, metal cutting can obtain more complex workpiece shape, smaller surface roughness value, higher dimensional accuracy, surface geometry accuracy and position accuracy. Therefore, metal cutting is widely used in practical production.

This relative motion between the tool and the workpiece is called cutting motion. The cutting motion is completed by the metal cutting CNC lathe, and there are two basic motions: linear motion and rotary motion. However, according to the role of cutting motion in machining, cutting motion is divided into main motion and feed motion.

Main motion of CNC lathe

The movement of directly cutting off the excess metal layer on the workpiece to make it become chips, so as to form a new surface of the workpiece is called the main movement. The main motion is characterized by high speed Zui and high power consumption Zui. In cutting, there is only one main motion, which is in the form of linear motion or rotary motion. When turning an outer circle, the rotating motion of the workpiece is the main motion.

The motion of continuously putting the cutting layer into cutting to gradually cut out the whole workpiece surface is called feed motion. The feeding speed is low and the power consumption is less. The feeding motion can be continuous or intermittent, and its form can be linear motion, rotary motion or a combination of the two. There is one, several or no feeding movement.
